What is Cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that starts on the surface of cervix. It happens when the cells start to change in your cervix. 80% to 90% of Cervical cancer are squamous cell carcinomas. 10% to 20% are Adenocarcinomas. You can also have mix of  types.

Who is at risk for Cervical cancer??

Some risk factors that you can control are:

Screening history: People who haven't had a regular test are more likely to get cervical cancer.

HPV infection: There are some types of HPV that cause Cervical cancer. The lower risk of HPV can also lower the risk for Cervical cancer.

Smoking: Frequently smoking cigarettes are also the risk for Cervical cancer.

HIV infection: People who have HIV infection have higher risk of Cervical cancer.

Having a weakened immune system: Weakness in tge immune system makes your body unable to fight infections.

There are some risk factors that you can't control or change:

Family history:  Cervical cancer can have the genetics term.

What are the complications of cervical cancer?

Early detection and treatment can hep you protect yourself from Cervical cancer. Some complications of Cervical cancer are:

Pain: The cancer can be very painful

Urinary problems: The cervical cancer can also cause problem like difficulty in peeing and cause constipation.

Kidney damage: The cervical cancer can also cause kidney failure.

Bleeding: It can cause bleeding in vagina, rectum or bladder, if the cancer spread to those organs.

Stages of Cervical cancer: 

There are four stages of cervical cancer. 

Stage 1: Cancer is only spread to the neck of cervix. It hasn't spread to the deepest part of your cervical tissues. 

Stage 2: Cancer has spread to your cervix and uterus but didn't reached to the pelvic part or lower vagina. 

Stage 3: Cancer has now reached to the pelvic and lower vagina (uterus). 

Stage 4: Cancer has completely spread to your bladder and other parts of your body, bones and lungs. 

Cervical cancer is completely curable. It is highly treatable cancer. If you get vaccinated on time and get screened from time to time. It's time to aware people with this hidden cancer by using digital media tools and powerful visuals to spread awareness.
